How to Pair Shoes with Leggings (Outfit Inspiration)
Leggings are a versatile piece of any woman’s wardrobe. They can be worn with dresses, shorts, tunics, t-shirts. They’re appropriate for every occasion, from workouts to the office to the park with the kids. Yup, leggings are the best. But do you ever find yourself confused over what kind of shoes to wear with leggings? You’re not alone. So, I’ve come up with a little how-to (and some examples) for choosing shoes.
Think about what you’re going to be doing -
- I know, it’s obvious advice, but it needs to be said. We’re in the 21st century, ladies! We have so many fashionable choices that we don’t have to sacrifice fashion for function. If you’re going to be outside traipsing around the wilderness, don’t wear a 4-inch knee-high boot with your leggings. Just don’t. Instead, wear a pair of cute sneakers (vans or converse are classic choices) or a pair of boots (like Timbaland or hiking boots).
- Think about the weather -
This piggy-backs off of point 1. Think about the weather. Yes, those loafers probably do look cute with your leggings, but they’re going to be ruined in 2 minutes out in that flood. Those vans? Not such a good choice on the ice. For winter weather, get a pair of cute boots (whatever height you like best) that has good traction on the bottom. It doesn’t matter how cute you look if you fall on your face!
- Decide what style you’re going for -
If you’re going out for a ladies’ night, you might want a girlie style, so choosing a feminine heel with a bold pair of leggings makes sense. But if you’re headed to meet your future in-laws, a more subdued, classic look might be a better option. Remember, style is your own choice, so do what makes you feel comfortable, and what you like!
- Take into account your body type and your height -
Some shoes look better on super tall models. Others look better on more petite girls. Think about how the shoes affects your entire look. If the shoe chops you off and makes you look shorter, there’s going to be an option that does the opposite.
- Express yourself -
The most important thing to remember is that you use fashion to express yourself. The rules of fashion are really just guidelines, and they can be broken. If you like it, go for it, no matter what the rules of fashion say!
